Backer Spotlight: Cornzapoppin

Meet local business owners who directly support local wildlife habitat conservation, environmental education, and responsible recreation in the Backcountry Wilderness Area.

The Backcountry Wilderness Area was part of the Highlands Ranch community long before the resident population reached 100,000 ... and so was Cornzapoppin. Since opening in 2003, Rich Van Hersett and his team at this local gourmet popcorn creator have served up sweet and savory treats with more than 40 popcorn flavors.

Between filling popcorn tins, we asked Rich a little bit more about Cornzapoppin and why he decided to back the Backcountry Wilderness Area! Pro tip:

What is your business? Cornzapoppin “Gourmet Popcorn Creations”

What does your business do for our community? We specialize in Gourmet Popcorn and gifts. We help advertise for companies, large and small, as well as be a source for gift giving for people and ideas of all types.

Why do you love what you do? At Cornzapoppin, we get to use many parts of our brains: analytics, creativity, efficiency, team building, etc. Many days, Cornzapoppin does not feel like a job.

What is your favorite thing to do outside? Travel in general is my 2nd hobby. Once there, outdoor walking and exploring is a great way to learn more about the world.

Why do you choose to Back the Backcountry through a sponsorship of the Backcountry Conservation & Education Fund? The local community has supported Cornzapoppin for almost 20 years. We try to help support the local community right back, and the Backcountry Wilderness Area is a great fit for similar values.
