When you think about the blustery winter days ahead, what comes to mind? The coziness of spending time with loved ones? Making new memories outdoors? At Backcountry Wilderness Area’s Base Camp you can do just that, even if weather conditions are less than picture perfect!

Children toasting marshmallows over a campfire in a field, smiling and enjoying. Leafless trees in the fall or winter background. A cheerful, outdoor setting.

We hold two cozy programs- S’mores Hikes and S’mores and Storytime. A S’mores Hike will take you on a scenic hike through the Backcountry, where you’ll work up an appetite, and finish your experience cozied up to our firepit back at the Base Camp Barnyard.

Three kids in winter clothes roast marshmallows on sticks over an outdoor fire pit. Hay bales and a barn are visible in the cloudy background.

S’mores and Storytime is a bit more laid back, with free time for the littles to enjoy playing and exploring in our Backyard. When cheeks become rosy, families can settle in and listen to a themed story, while enjoying s’mores by the fireside.

Be sure to snap pictures along the way to capture these new memories! These programs run monthly and can be found on our website with more information.

**Programs run dependent on current fire restrictions, or alternate sweet treat provided.
